The University of Padova - Department of Mathematics “Tullio Levi-Civita” is looking for no. 1 doctoral researcher to work on “TRAIL - TRAnsparent InterpretabLe robots” HORIZON-MSCA-2021-DN-01-01 no. 101072488 project.

TRAIL aims to develop a research and training network in a novel, highly interdisciplinary and cross-sectorial area that pursues a better understanding of transparency in deep learning, artificial intelligence and robotics systems.

The Doctoral Network TRAIL consists of 15 institutions including universities, research institutions and industry partners. The research area of TRAIL is neural network technology, intelligent robotics and transparency in artificial intelligence. The focus of the research at the University of Padova will be the study of deep learning-based architectures that connect entities/events occurring in an image/video, and which are described in text (generated from an audio source), with knowledge databases for a semantic description of the entities (ontology).

The selected candidates will receive a gross salary in accordance with the MSCA regulations for doctoral researchers. The salary includes a living allowance, a mobility allowance and a family allowance (if applicable). Furthermore, TRAIL will offer to take advantage of joint scientific research trainings, transferable skills workshops, and international conferences.

Eligibility:

According to EU mobility rules, the doctoral candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Italy for longer than 12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment. Candidates who already have a doctoral degree are not eligible (candidates who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but who have not yet formally been awarded the doctoral degree will not be considered eligible). Excellent English communication skills are an important requirement.

Requirements:

MSc or equivalent in Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science or Computer Engineering with a focus on Robotics, AI and/or Neural Networks is required. Excellent programming skills (e.g. Python, C++, Machine Learning Frameworks, etc.) are needed and expertise in at least one of neural networks or computer vision is needed for the position.
